A woman whose husband is accused of raping and strangling their six-year old daughter to death never recovered from the tragedy and died from a broken heart.
The mother-of-two Anna Zubko, 27, had severe depression following the tragedy that happened to her family in the city of Rostov-on-Don in southwestern Russia’s Rostov Oblast region.
Six months ago Anna’s husband Yaroslav Oleinikov, 28, allegedly raped and killed the couple’s six-year-old daughter Veronika.
The child was found hanged from the fence in the courtyard near the family’s house.
Her favorite toy was wrapped around her neck, it was reported.
A forensic-medical examination showed that Veronika was raped several times before being strangled to death and hanged.
Oleinikov was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with rape and murder.
After the funeral of her daughter, Anna was deprived of parental rights and her three-year-old son Ivan was placed in an orphanage.
Following the tragedy, Anna, who always dreamed of having a husband and children, fell into severe depression.
Her mental state made her indifferent to her physical health. And when she got a cold soon after the tragedy, she did nothing to treat it.
The disease, that was not being treated, worsened and turned into pneumonia. When Anna applied for medical help it was too late.
She died of pneumonia six months after the death of her beloved daughter.
Anna was a cleaning lady in a local supermarket. Her husband was unemployed. He was supposed to take care of their children.
Locals say the family led a quiet and isolated life.
A male neighbour of the family said: “The family had an isolated life. The murdered girl did not attend a kindergarten for some reason and could barely speak.
“Though I have never seen the parents to be drunk or arguing with each other. They seemed to be a normal family.”
Oleinikov is going to stand trial soon. The suspect faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
