A man aged 41 and identified as Everett Simpson, has raped a woman in front of her 5-year-old son, claiming he only wanted to get revenge on his cheating wife, police say.
Everett Simpson was wanted by police for allegedly kidnapping the woman and her child, who he targeted randomly, at a mall in New Hampshire last month. Simpson then took the two to a hotel in Vermont and raped the woman in front of her son while making statements about wanting to hurt his wife, according to authorities.
After the alleged rape, Simpson let the pair escape the hotel room and was later arrested after leading police on a chase in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Everett’s wife, Sherise, left him in September after nine years of marriage, taking their two children with her.
She said her former husband was furious and she feared he might kill her – or himself. ‘After texting me repeatedly he called me … and said he was going to kill himself. That’s something he has said before to get my attention and sympathy,’ Sherise Simpson told the Union Leader. ‘My sister made me promise I was going to turn my phone off, turn my locator off so he couldn’t find me and not go to him.’
She said she feels sympathy for her former husbands alleged victim, who authorities say was terrorized by the abduction. ‘I hope she will get better and feel better. If I could, what I would say to her is, “Thank you.” I want her to know that she had saved my life.’
‘She was so smart to get him to go to a hotel with her because there would be cameras there. I never could have imagined in a million years he would have done those things.’ While in prison, Sherise said Everett sent her over 100 letters. He was previously arrested for assaulting a police officer in Vermont. On Tuesday, Everett Simpson appeared in court in Vermont on kidnapping charges and for transporting a victim across state lines. A judge ruled that he should not be released on bail.
He also faces charges in Pennsylvania. He is scheduled to reappear in court on February 22nd.
